The Ghana Navy has launched its Gorgets at a short ceremony at the Naval Headquarters on Tuesday 13 March 2018 in Burma Camp, Accra.

In the welcome address, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Peter Kofi Faidoo, disclosed that he had always been one of the officers who were against the wearing of Gorgets by Naval Officers, but now, there was the need for the Navy to change their mind set on the wearing of Gorgets, quoting the 19th Century Irish Playwright George Bernard Shaw “Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything”.

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Mantsebi-Tei Nagai, who represented Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) Lieutenant General Obed Boama Akwa, commended the CNS and the entire Ghana Navy for the stride attained and for the steps taken toward harmonizing dressing in the Ghana Armed Forces.

He hoped that it would not only make it easier for the Army and Air Force to identify and accord the right courtesies to the Senior Officers but would also raise the morale of Officers in the Ghana Navy.

The Ghana Navy since its inception had not been wearing Gorgets as part of their uniforms. But with the changes in seasons and times and in line with contemporary practice, the Navy has come to the decision to wear Gorgets. The Gorget comes in two forms, one for officers of the rank of Commodore and above and the other for Officers of the rank of Naval Captain.
