The Minister for Defence End of Year Message to the Ghana Armed Forces

In few days time, the year 2017 will draw to a close coming with it celebrations of the yuletide. I wish to use this opportunity to send my sincerest greetings to all officers, men/women, civilian employees and families of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) not forgetting the Veterans Administration, Ghana(VAG).

The GAF during the year played a crucial role in assistance of civil authority to maintain law and order in the face of Armed Robbery, Illegal Lumbering and others in this internal security operation. The success chalked was due to the commitment and loyalty of our gallant men and women. When the most challenging task of Operation VANGAURD was launched you stood up to the occasion. I highly commend All Ranks of the Ghana Armed Forces for working relentlessly in close collaboration with the Civil Police to create a safe, stable and enabling environment for all law abiding persons in Ghana to conduct their business affairs freely without fear or intimidation.

As we continue to mature in our democracy, the relevance of functional institutions to keep us on track cannot be overemphasized. You our proud officers and men/women continue to demonstrate the capacity and capabilities as a State Force that can be relied upon at all times to assist in preserving the sanctity of our democracy by being professional in your duties. I entreat you all not rest on your oars and to support the growth and development of our beloved country.

On external operations, I wish to commend your tireless efforts in the maintenance of global peace and security. Your exemplary professionalism in peacekeeping has won international acclamation for which most countries want to learn from you. I know that significant measures have been instituted to streamline the Peace Support Operations (PSO) to enable the GAF derive maximum benefits. As you continue to be good ambassadors of Ghana, the government will continue to ensure that your motivation and morale is maintained by prompt payment of your operational allowances as it falls due.

We assured of your vigilance as the Xmas Trees is planted and we hopeful that all have a peaceful celebration because of your chosen career and sacrifices. The people of Ghana say Ayekoo.

On behalf of the Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, I wish to sue this occasion to thank all of you for a good job done during the last elections. But for your efforts, we will not be enjoying the peace to celebrate this Xmas. I wish you and your dear families a Merry Christmas and a promising New Year.
