27 December 2017. The Armed Forces Central Band has held its West African Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA) on Wednesday, 27 December, 2017 at Unit Parade Square.
The Director General, Personnel Administration (DGPA), Brigadier General Charles Kodjo Abede Asomaning Awity who was the guest of honour for the occasion noted the tenacity of purpose, discipline and professional manner in which the Band carries out its duties. “Your excellent performances during Military and State Guard of Honours, Credential ceremonies and Presidential Guard Changing are commendable.”
He acknowledged the extraordinary endurance of the Band in meeting the requests for official military parades and ceremonies and added that the excellent performances had given a good and positive impression of the Unit and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) across the length and breadth of the country and beyond.
He further entreated bandsmen and women to keep fit, undergo routine medical checkups and engage in positive and healthy activities to de-stress as their work as bandsmen and women exposed them to stress and dangers.
The Commanding Officer (CO), Lt Col DB Asare noted that the Beautiful General Band has been restored and provided with the necessary instrument and was now functional. He added that the Musical School which was an integral part of the Unit has been commissioned and currently under the Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS).
Further, he thanked the outgoing Commander Support Services Brigade Group, Brig Gen Francis Ofori and the immediate past Commanding Officer, Lt Col Oppong for their immense contributions to the Unit. He also commended personnel for their enthusiasm, exceptional performances displayed and the professional touch in executing their duties.
Sgt Ankomah Joseph was awarded the Most Dedicated Regimental Soldier, with Cpl Ahinkrah Michael as the Best Dancer While Private Fiagbe Asinu was as the most promising young soldier, Mr. Enoch kweku Sarfo was adjudged the most hardworking civilian employee.
