17 November, 2017.      A Mission Accomplishment Parade has been held for United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali Ghana Aviation Unit (MINUSMA GHAV3) on Friday, 17 November 2017, at Air Force Base – Burma Camp, to mark the Unit’s withdrawal from Mali.

MINUSMA Ghana Aviation Unit (MINUSMA GHAV3)  made up of three (3) Officers and thirty-two (32) men, started its operation from September 2014 to October 2017 and its mandate was to assist in Administrative and Logistic support flights, general passenger flight, troop movement, and causality evacuation among others. 1 x CASA C-295 which was used for the operation carried 15,000 passengers, 330 tons of cargo in 37 sorties.

The Guest of Honour for the occasion, Director General for International Peace Support Operations (DG-IPSO), Brig Gen Issahaku in his remarks acknowledged the efforts of Ghanaian soldiers in mission areas for raising the image of Ghana high in spite of the enormous challenges in the Operational areas. He further added that, the Ghana Aviation Unit distinguished itself creditably and the high performance was widely acknowledged throughout the Mission.

The Acting Base Commander, Air force Base, Group Captain Frederick Bekoe in his remarks commended on the professionalism of troops, which has raised the flag of the Ghana Air Force high, which also coupled as a welfare and morale booster package. He again added that, the CASA aircrew in particular got the opportunity to train, thereby improving their flying hours and gaining lots of experience as well.

He further advised troops to exhibit the experience they had gained in their operations and should not relent on their hard work.

The parade ended with the handing over of the Unit flag to DG-IPSO by GP Capt Yaw Cole. The colours of the flag are symbols and embodiment of each Unit and likewise signify the official end of MINUSMA Ghana Aviation Mission in Mali.

MINUSMA was established by the United Nation’s Security Council Resolution 2100 on 25 April, 2013. It is a United Nations Peace keeping Mission in Mali and its aim was to stabilize the country after the Tuareg rebellion in 2012.
