14 November 2017. The Liberian President, Her Excellency (HE) Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has paid a working visit to the country on Tuesday, 14 November, 2017.
Her visit was to honour the invitation of the President of Ghana, President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, who doubles as the Chairperson for the African Union Committee on Gender, to launch the Gender and Development Initiative for Africa (GRADIA) at the International Conference Centre in Accra.
The initiative, which was under the theme “African Women as Leaders in Business and Politics”, was set to give momentum to the push for equal access to high level political positions and equal opportunities within the African Union. The AU is also focused on providing women with greater access to finance and markets as a means of opening up economic opportunities for them and winning the war on poverty and economic exclusion.
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was welcomed at the Kotoka International Airport by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Shirley Ayorko Botchway and other Ministers of State on behalf of President Akufo-Addo.
Her Excellency President Johnson Sirleaf inspected a Guard of Honour which was formed in her honour. The national anthems of both countries were also played by the Armed Forces Central Band.
